For 2019, the Chinese New Year celebrates the Year of the Boar or Pig. As is true of Chinese astrology, this isn’t just any Boar though. It’s the Earth Boar, which can best be described with the three words – strength, stamina, and scope. Preferring to stay out of cities, rural life is more to their liking. They are “earthy” and can be blunt, tell ‘off-color’ jokes, and sometimes display coarse manners.
Other qualities of this energy are being vastly creative, being unafraid of criticism, wanting to live in innocence and purity, an intense need for tradition, and being often confused about which direction to take thus creating indecision.
In general though, this is the twelfth sign of the Chinese zodiac. The Boar or Pig is yin energy and its motto is, “I preserve.” The favorite color is purple; fragrance is ambergris; stone is moonstone; and the lucky number is 5.
On the positive side, the Boar is sensible, sensual, and sensitive. They can be naïve, caring, self-sacrificing, talented, candid, outgoing, amusing, and charitable.
The downside to the Boar is being hot-tempered, pessimistic, earthy to a fault, snide, stingy, victimized, authoritarian, know-it-all, and even mad at the world.
But what does this mean for anyone who was not born an Earth Boar or even just a Boar? I think you have to go back to those three words – strength, stamina, and scope.
No matter what your goals for this year may be, with energies that offer strength, stamina, and scope (meaning freedom, space, or capacity to act), there should be nothing that’s able to stand in your way to succeed in any endeavor.
Earth Boar/Pig also is lucky and money comes naturally to him or her. That means that energy is there for the rest of us as well. Survival and even just the enjoyment of life should be much easier for those who choose to tap into these energies.
If you want to know, in more detail, what the Year of the Boar holds in store for you (and you are one of the other signs of the Chinese zodiac) I highly recommend The New Chinese Astrology by Suzanne White. It’s a very good read with lots of information.
In the meantime, we have a New Moon happening in the sign of Aquarius on Monday, February 4th at 4:04 p.m. EST. Being a very imaginative energy, it’s excellent for the new beginnings of this New Moon.
That imaginative energy can create unique, unexpected situations. If you’ve been thinking of using this time to begin something new, be aware that it might appear in a way you would have never thought of. That’s Aquarian energy for ya!
Imagination, innovation, these are energies that require you to be broadminded about how changes take place in your life. Freedom from what was may require radical, unusual thought and action. You may have to blaze a trail into unknown territory.
With both the Sun and Moon in Aquarius, it intensifies the clearness and brightness of the intellect making the mind positive, self-reliant, original, and humane.
The energy of an Aquarius New Moon will definitely ask you to step outside your comfort zone to the unconventional, unusual, and original, but then that’s where progress is usually achieved.
Then on Tuesday, February 5th, we enter the Year of the Boar. Knowing that the Chinese New Year always happens the day after the first New Moon following the first Full Moon of the new calendar year, can add those energies to any new beginnings you’ve been wanting to make this year.
This new energy, the Year of the Boar, will be with us until January 24, 2020.
Sunday, February 10th will see Mercury move into Pisces at 5:51 a.m. EST giving an energy that allows unsurpassed concentration. It will cause some to be amazingly psychic, as if they have accessed a mystical fund of information.
The creative imagination can be extraordinary. For some, however, the opposite may be the case with the strangest delusions and fantasies. The difference being how you receive and use this intense planetary energy.
Some may discover they have become extremely sensitive to their surroundings and the people in them. On one hand, it can make you more sympathetic to other people’s situations. On the other hand, if it makes you feel uncomfortable, you may be inclined not to talk. If you find this doesn’t apply to you, it might be true for one or more persons around you.
A drawback to this transit is that it can cause some to talk too much and even tell things that are best left unsaid. It is a water sign and can cause words to just “flow” like water from a burst dam.
Overall, if you’re looking for the chance to make a better connection with your Higher Self or the Cosmic Consciousness through meditation or some other form of psychic work, this is an excellent placement for that work.
On Valentine’s Day, Thursday, February 14th, Mars will move into Taurus @ 5:51 a.m. EST adding a sensuous, earthy flavor to the energies of this day and the days that follow.
Patience and slow, purposeful action are positive attributes of this transit. This produces craftspersons and skilled artisans who are very patient and precise in the use of tools allowing for the creation of objects that are both lovely and durable.
Anger seems to be the worst of the problems produced here. Holding it in for too long ends up causing blow ups over trivial things with that anger being totally out of proportion to the situation.
This also can cause an attitude of not wanting to be rushed into love-making. The energy is quite sensuous and earthy, but patience is the keyword here. Hugs, kisses, and cuddles first.
This is a time to take care of your throat. Taurus rules the throat, Mars rules fire or inflammation so take preventive measures if you’re already prone to throat problems.
Overall, this is a good energy for the building of anything – home, business, relationship, etc. All it takes is patience, perseverance, and precision. Mars in Taurus offers all three.
Finally, we have the Sun making its yearly transit through Pisces beginning on Monday, February 18th at 6:04 p.m. EST.
Pisces is a water sign ruled by Neptune, the planet of illusion. That makes the energies of the Sun in Pisces, and those born under that sign, difficult to understand.
There appears to be little ambition, a lack of intensity, and almost a carelessness about tomorrow. The truth is that still waters do run deep. The energies of emotion run strong and deep with Pisces and are often too susceptible to outside influences.
Like water, confining Pisces in any way is difficult, if not impossible. Also, like water, Pisces energy is more about going with the current than trying to flow upstream. This is what gives the impression of a lack of ambition. Taking the easy way can become a dangerous trap for those born under this planetary influence or are affected by it.
While Pisces is a kind, sympathetic, receptive, intuitive energy, it can also be vague, indecisive, secretive, and careless. Like the two fish swimming in opposite directions, we have a choice how we use this energy. Choose wisely.
This is a very intuitive and spiritual sign. When the Sun is in Pisces, it’s a good time to take both of these qualities into consideration and explore them. Pisces rules the 12th house of the astrology chart. This is the house of secret sorrows, self-undoing, the occult or hidden side of life. It’s a karmic house ruled by a karmic sign. Exploring any or all of these, during this transit, can reveal answers that can provide direction and healing.
So that’s what’s happening in the next two weeks. Wishing you all a wonderful New Moon with success in whatever kind of new beginning you desire.
