Not only am I fascinated by astrology but by such things as comets, meteors, and other sky phenomena. Recently, I ran across an article about the Great Meteor Procession of 1913. What?! Yeah, I never heard of it either, so I had to read the article.
It seems that in the evening of February 9, 1913, at about 9 p.m. EST, people in northeastern United States, Canada, and even Bermuda witnessed a procession of between 40 and 60 bright, slow-moving fireballs that were moving, from the northwest to the southeast, across the sky. The entire event took about 5 minutes and was witnessed by around 1000 people including those aboard eight ships off the coast of Brazil.
What made this so unusual is that there seemed to be no place they were radiating from, as is the case for other meteor showers. Astronomer Clarence Chant, who later that year analyzed the observations in detail, concluded that the source could have been a small, short-lived natural satellite of Earth.
Observers may have thought the end of the world was near as the visual phenomena was accompanied by thunder-like sounds and, for some, a trembling of houses and the ground was felt.
To this day, although there have been several theories as to their origin, no one has ever been sure of where they came from and it has never occurred again. These meteors are known as the Cyrillids, after the feast day of Cyril of Alexandria, which was February 9th on the Roman Catholic calendar.
Although there’s no major sky event, like the Cyrillids, on the calendar for us this year, there is a New Moon which will take place on Thursday, February 11th at 2:06 p.m. EST. With the Sun and Moon both in Aquarius, the energies will favor discretion, discrimination, and careful thought. It makes the mind positive, self-reliant, original, and fairly active.
When the Moon is in Aquarius there is an opportunity to take the very imaginative energies of this placement and channel them into creative avenues you enjoy. This can bring about positive achievements in the arts and a chance to extend ones lifestyle into a variety of interesting situations.
What might be called the downside to this is that if an outlet isn’t created or used, it may deteriorate into gossip and rumor spreading. There usually isn’t any malice to this, but it can create some unfortunate backlashes when the source is discovered.
With the New Moon often viewed as the time for new beginnings, this one, placed in Aquarius, offers the opportunity to do unique, inventive things. If you’ve felt like you’re in a rut in any area of your life, then this may be your chance to get out of the rut with some unconventional thinking and action. Perhaps it’s time to do something that you or others would consider “unusual” for you to do. That’s called “scratching the record” and can move you from doing the same old, same old, to something new and exciting.
One week later, on Thursday, February 18th, at 5:44 a.m. EST, the Sun begins its annual sojourn through Pisces.
Pisces is a water sign ruled by Neptune, the planet of illusion. That makes the energies of the Sun in Pisces, and those born under that sign, difficult to understand.
There appears to be little ambition, a lack of intensity, and almost a carelessness about tomorrow. The truth is that still waters do run deep. The energies of emotion run strong and deep with Pisces and are often too susceptible to outside influences.
Like water, confining Pisces in any way is difficult, if not impossible. Also, like water, Pisces energy is more about going with the current than trying to flow upstream. This is what gives the impression of a lack of ambition. Taking the easy way can become a dangerous trap for those born under this planetary influence or are affected by it.
While Pisces is a kind, sympathetic, receptive, intuitive energy, it can also be vague, indecisive, secretive, and careless. Like the two fish swimming in opposite directions, we have a choice how we use this energy. Choose wisely.
This is a very intuitive and spiritual sign. When the Sun is in Pisces, it’s a good time to take both of these qualities into consideration and explore them. Pisces rules the 12th house of the astrology chart. This is the house of secret sorrows, self-undoing, the occult or hidden side of life. It’s a karmic house ruled by a karmic sign. Exploring any or all of these, during this transit, can reveal answers that can provide direction and healing.
A few days later, on Saturday, February 20th, Mercury, which is still in Aquarius, turns direct from its retrograde motion at 7:52 p.m. EST. It is here that the mind can be opened to new experiences. There’s an ability to see things in the light of impersonal truth, making the mind truthful, unbiased, and objective.
For those who are in touch with their intuitive abilities, it is here you’ll find that the highest intuitive faculties happen through communication with the larger Universal Mind. Experiences, under the influence of this placement, go beyond the five senses. Telepathy is one such avenue.
The ability to see things in broad terms promotes humanitarian needs and a concern with the spiritual unfolding of humanity. That makes it an excellent position and time for astrology and all forms of occult study.
Five days later, on Thursday, February 25th, Venus enter Pisces at 8:11 a.m. EST. Here, people become soft and tender in their love. Some can have an unequaled capacity for dedication and self-sacrifice. There seems to be an intuitive ability to know how to best please those that are loved.
There is, however, a tendency to not use ones head at all, but rather ones intuition, where affections are concerned. Which can, sometimes, cause someone born with this placement or affected by it to choose a person who sorely needs their love and may be inferior to who they are.
This energy causes people to be romantic and sensitive. Loneliness and disappointment can happen when a person affected by these energies doesn’t receive clear demonstrations of love and affection. It can go as far as resulting in feelings of martyrdom, neurotic tendencies, or even mental illness.
For the artist, poet, or musician, the intuitive inspiration created by Neptune’s rulership of Pisces causes people to be capable of drawing on higher dimensions for resources. This Venus placement has probably more innate ability for inspired artistic creativity than other placements.
One other thing, if you have this placement or are affected by it, be aware that the extreme emotional sensitivity you feel means there is a fear of being hurt through rejection. That can cause hesitation in expressing ones feelings. That sometimes causes suffering in silence.
So take the positive attributes of the planetary energies and use them to move you forward while being aware of the negative attributes that could happen, so you can avoid them. Have a great two weeks!
