Astrological Musings & More

I know I’ve talked a lot about retrograde planets, but there’s no doubt they’re an important energy in our journey on Planet Earth. Whether we’re talking about the planets that are currently retrograde, the ones that exist in your personal natal chart, or a combination of the two, these are energies that can help us to traverse the blocks and barriers we find ourselves facing in both our personal lives and those of the planet.

When Mercury went retrograde in Libra on Monday, September 27th, everyone was talking about it. That may be due to the fact that Mercury, with its quick orbit of the Sun, goes retrograde more frequently than any other planet. So, when I pointed out, both on Twitter and Facebook, that there were FIVE other planets currently retrograde, making Mercury the SIXTH, some people freaked. (I’ve never really understood the freaking out.) A few others asked me how often that happens – having that many planes retrograde all at one time.

To absolutely, precisely answer that question, I would have to review the planetary positions of many, many years. What I can tell you is that from April to October of each year, there seems to be times where anywhere from four to six of the eight planets that can go retrograde (the Sun and Moon are never retrograde) do so. Most times, it seems to be four or five, but occasionally, like now, six of those planets are all retrograde at once.

So, what does that mean? Well, if you have that many retrograde in your natal chart, it says to me that you came here to work through a lot of karma from past live. I’ve done a few charts where the client had that many. One instance is my first born granddaughter. She was born in April, 1985. There were five planets retrograde at that time. As her life has unfolded, it’s become pretty obvious that the soul inhabiting that body came here to make progress and clear away karma. That’s when I began to realize that there was great importance to a person having that many retrograde planets.

What about the rest of us? What does it mean when they’re retrograde, like now? It means we have an opportunity, both individually and as inhabitants of the planet, to work through karma. Whether it’s our own personal karma we brought with us into this Life or karma we’ve created while here; whether it’s group karma from past lives or karma we’re creating right now, this is a golden opportunity to change things for the better – wipe the slate clean or at least cleaner.

The other thing I can say is, for those who are holding their breath, “take a breath.” There’s really nothing all that scary going on – unless you choose to ignore the energies and live by default. There’s relief in sight. In the next two weeks, four of those six planets will be turning direct. When they do, ask yourself, “What did I do and what did I learn?”

Full Moon in Libra
We begin with that fascinating New Moon taking place on Wednesday, October 6th at 7:05 a.m. EDT. With both the Sun and the Moon in Libra, it could cause too much reliance on others.

The energies are affable, courteous, and well-disposed. The also gives clear perception, foresight, and a desire to do good.

The Moon, by itself, allows those affected by it to understand other people’s points of view. It’s the instinct for self-preservation that saves people from making mistakes in judgment under the influence of this lunar placement.

Since many look at the New Moon as a time of new beginnings, this one is saying that your next step many involve other people and they can be new acquaintances. Teamwork may be involved in that new direction or beginning. Or it may be through marriage, partnership, or just general association.

That new beginning might involve something creative. Art, music, writing, or even something like baking or decorating such as painting walls. Something that appeals to your beauty-loving nature or aesthetic impressions.

It’s become pretty obvious that Libra is about the quest for balance and harmony in ones life. That’s also an option for the new beginning that this New Moon offers. The discovery of new, undiscovered information and methods may provide some new pathways and practices to aid in achieving that very same balance and harmony.

Pluto in Capricorn
Later that same day, Pluto in Capricorn will be turning direct from its retrograde motion on Wednesday, October 6th At 2:29 p.m. EDT. It was April 25th when it went retrograde. At that time, I said:

“When Pluto goes retrograde, no matter what sign it’s in, it’s a time to think about the power and control issues in our lives. With it being an outer planet, it has less of a personal impact than a generational one or global one. Still, an individual can feel the effects of its energies, especially if they have Pluto in Capricorn.

“I liked what Astrology King had to say about this year’s Pluto retrograde: “If people have controlled or manipulated ou then now is the time to let them go. If you have been too controlling of others or situations then it is time to let go. This is not a time for power tripping but a time for elimination. Fated events and repeating themes will reinforce which of your controlling habits, compulsions, addictions, or prejudices must be eliminated.

“If you have been too smothering and controlling in a relationship, holding on too tight, then you may be forced to let go. If obsessive or compulsive behavior involving food or drugs has taken hold of your life, then events may force a turnaround. The more intense your destructive behavior, the more extreme the detoxification or withdrawal stage will be, such as going cold turkey.

“Perhaps suspicion, secrecy, racism, gambling, or porn are taking control and holding you back from spiritual evolution. Trust in your spirit guides and think of the extremes your ancestors endured to have their genes expressed in you. Destroying things that have control over you will increase your spiritual power and lead to personal mastery.”

When Pluto in Capricorn turns retrograde bringing these same lessons back around again so you can see and evaluate your progress or possible regression. Spiritually, the lesson can be one of learning to “be in this world but not of it.” That entails rising about the karma of our entire race.

Sound like heavy stuff? It can be since Pluto is considered the guardian of the soul.

Enlightenment and compassion allows an individual to attain spiritual knowledge and occult powers. This means gaining an awareness of truth and that is done through experience.

Now that it’s turning direct again, not only the lessons that retrograde Pluto may have brought into your life, but that Pluto in Capricorn is about learning how to establish your individuality and authority within in the culture or society that you live. This happens by learning how society works and this means learning related lessons in discipline, self-determination, and submission to a higher authority.

Venus in Sagittarius

The very next day, Thursday, October 7th, Venus enters Sagittarius at 7:21 a.m. EDT. adding fire that makes the love like a shooting star – brilliant but impermanent. The attention span of those affected by these energies is fleeting and short-lived where romance is concerned.

Another factor is that those who have this placement or are affected by it will need to be absolutely free in love. If someone tries to tie them down, they become bored and find the nearest exit from which to escape. Disillusionment and the resulting inconstancy in love are the reasons why many remain single, faithful only to their ideals.

Some may find emotional satisfaction through outdoor games and sports. There is also a love of travel, especially to distant places. Art, music, and even religious ceremony and pageantry are emotionally appealing.

Saturn in Aquarius
It was this time in 1993 when Saturn was last in Aquarius and retrograde. That’s 28 years. It’s known as a Saturn return and for individuals who have it in their natal chart or had something major happen the last time this placement occurred, you may have found some major things happening during this retrograde time period. I know I did. Things like major moves of residence, illnesses, marriage, births, deaths, changes of jobs all happen when a Saturn return happens.

Saturn has been in Aquarius since December 17th of 2020. This is a placement that creates a capacity for well-organized mental concentration. There will be a concern for impartial truth that is vastly important. If a person sets aside the ego, it is possible to see all issues in the light of impartial, universal law.

Then it went retrograde on May 23rd. Turning retrograde it offered energies that can indicate an individual is slow in bringing karmic lessons to completions. This creates a weight we carry in our souls from a former life. When that energy combines with the energy of our current life, it can present us with evidence that helps us to understand our true mission.

Because we are repeating this lesson, the retrograde action of the planet can make us feel its restrictive force, especially if we try to escape the lesson. To flow with that energy and that lesson, understanding that patient guidance is being offered, can lead to identifying with something higher than we may imagine.

Regardless of where Saturn is found, it always represents the neglect of responsibilities in the past. In many ways, it’s indicating we must be more honest with ourselves since there was an avoidance of true self-awareness and self-honesty previously.

Now that it will be turning direct again, still in Aquarius, on Sunday, October 10th at 10:17 p.m. EDT, we once again return to its direct motion meaning:

This is a placement that creates a capacity for well-organized mental concentration. There will be a concern for impartial truth that is vastly important. If a person sets aside the ego, it is possible to see all issues in the light of impartial, universal law.

Aquarius is intuitive, but in order to access that ability, one must develop the ability to quiet the mind and steady the attention. Saturn will aid in giving a person that steadiness of attention necessary for this development.

People with this placement or those affected by it are loyal and responsible to friends and to groups with which they work. There are cases where the influence of this placement can create a tendency toward coldness and emotional insensitivity in personal relationships. This makes their manner formal, exclusive, and even intellectual, lacking in feeling.

For the most part, the energies of this transit offer the opportunity to seek and find truth but also develop a trust in one’s intuition.

Jupiter in Aquarius
Another planet to turn direct right now is Jupiter in Aquarius. Jupiter hasn’t been in this sign and retrograde since 2009. This time it entered Aquarius on December 19th of last year, just 2 days after Saturn entered this sign. It’s been retrograde in Aquarius since July 28th.  Now it will turn direct on Monday, October 18th at 1:30 a.m. EDT.

Jupiter in Aquarius, by itself, puts a double emphasis on intellectual freedom, humanitarian focus and the need to go well beyond the boundaries that others commonly accept. Jupiter, no matter what sign it occupies, is always looking for Ultimate Truth, and Aquarius may do so in some very unusual ways and places.

Beliefs and values, which are part of what Jupiter represents, can take an extremely intellectual turn with a belief only in mental processes, logic, and technology. There is a chance that it can create an openness to “New Age” thought and spiritual practices, but even though there is a strong faith in a Universal Power that can develop, there may be a resistance to committed membership in any particular spiritual group or assemblage.

These energies may cause people to take an entirely unique approach to values, perceptions, and the search for Truth. Those affected by these energies can become leaders in innovative thought whether it’s intellectual, philosophical, or spiritual. It can cause people to decry racial, sexual, or cultural prejudices.

Of this placement, you can say, direct or retrograde, it makes for interesting times.
Mercury in Libra
On Monday, October 18th, Mercury in Libra will be turning direct from its retrograde motion at 11:17 a.m. EDT.

Mercury only entered Libra at the end of August, offering us the opportunity to learn about balance and harmony in such areas of our lives as work, study, communications and decision-making.

Retrograde Mercury sent us wobbling, off balance as these lessons presented themselves in some form or another. Now, Mercury turns direct and we should ask ourselves what it is that we learned.

We are, once again, being presented with excellent energies for work, study or just investigating such areas as psychology, astrology, public relations, social work, and the law.

Good communications, that are open and honest, are still important especially in all our relationships if we want them to be happy ones.

Decision-making may still find wanting and needing to consider all sides to an issue before coming to a final decision. This may cause you to seek out others who have fine minds and honest reputations for their insights and truthful communications on matters that are important to you, but, ultimately, the decision will still be yours to make.

Did Mercury retrograde help you to look at any of these areas and see work that needs done? Are you ready now for new approaches to these areas o your life? Time will tell.

Stream of StarsI apologize for the length of this issue of Musings. There’s so much happening and it’s all so very important for us to be aware of the energies right now. Changes are taking place – both personal and planetary. Knowledge is power. Don’t forget that – ever.
