Astrological Musings & More

The coming days are filled with changes and movement in the planets.  Rather than write an opening article, I’m choosing to get right to it so you can be well-informed for whats about to occur.

New Moon in Sagittarius

We begin with the New Moon that’s happening in Sagittarius on Monday, December 14th, at 11:17 a.m. EST.  For this one, we have a solar eclipse that won’t be seen in the Northern Hemisphere and will only be seen in the sourthern portion of South America and a small area of the west coast in southern Africa.  That doesn’t mean we won’t feel it though.

Ruled by Jupiter, the planet of expansion, Sagittarius is about change, movement, adventure and also about higher education, philosophy, law, and spirituality.  It tells us to aim high, dream big, and go for it.

If you know it’s time that things in your life change for the better, what better time to begin that process than during a New Moon when both the Sun and Moon are in Sagittarius?  If you’ve realized that there are people, places, and situations that no longer serve you and are actually holding you back, then use the solar eclipse to cut off that energy from influencing you any loner while you use the energy of the New Moon to move on.

For those who tap into these energies or are influenced by them, with the Sun and Moon both in Sagittarius, a double fire energy is at hand to charge you up, energize you, and burn away all that’s been holding you back.  The timing may never be better to courageously move yourself forward toward success!

The very next day, Tuesday, December 15th, Venus enters Sagittarius at 11:21 a.m. EST adding fire that makes love like a shooting star – brilliant but impermanent.  The attention span of those affected by these energies is fleeting and short-lived where romance is concerned.

Another factor is that those who have this placement or are affected by it will need to be absolutely free in love.  If someone tries to tie them down, they become bored and find the nearest exit from which to escape.  Disillusionment and the resulting inconstancy in love are the reasons why many remain single, faithful only to their ideals.

Some may find emotional satisfaction through outdoor games and sports.  There is also a love of travel, especially to distant places.  Art, music, and even religious ceremony and pageantry are emotionally appealing.

Saturn in Aquarius

As we begin to move toward that Grand Conjunction I mentioned last time, Saturn enters Aquarius on Thursday, December 17th, at 0:04 a.m. EST.  Saturn used to rule Aquarius before the discovery of Uranus in 1781.

This is a placement that creates a capacity for well-organized mental concentration.  There will be a concern for impartial truth that is vastly important.  If a person sets aside the ego, it is possible to see all issues in the light of impartial, universal law.

Aquarius is intuitive, but in order to access that ability, one must develop the ability to quiet the mind and steady the attention.  Saturn will aid in giving a person that steadiness of attention necessary for this development.

People with this placement or those affected by it are loyal and responsible to friends and to groups with which they work.  There are cases where the influence of this placement can create a tendency toward coldness and emotional insensitivity in personal relationships.  This makes their manner formal, exclusive, and even intellectual, lacking in feeling.

For the most part, the energies of this transit offer the opportunity to seek and find truth but also develop a trust in one’s intuition.

Jupiter in Aquarius

Two days later, at 8:07 a.m. EST, Jupiter enters Aquarius on Saturday, December 19th causing a double emphasis on intellectual freedom, humanitarian focus and a need to go well beyond the boundaries that are normally accepted by the masses.  While Jupiter is seeking Ultimate Truth, Aquarius will cause that search to take place in some very unusual ways and places.

The energy of this placement is extremely oriented toward personal freedom and indicates the person will do almost anything, including challenging established ways of thinking, doing, and being, in order to break free of restraints.  In gentle or cooperative individuals, it may cause them to simply leave to keep the peace.  In the more rebellious personality, this placement may intensify the refusal to compromise.  Mutinous reactions can happen if restrictions are imposed on this type of person.  Violence can even be considered as acceptable in the journey toward freedom if seen as being what it will take to achieve that goal.

When constructively expressed, there can be innovative thought that is purely intellectual, philosophical, and spiritual in nature.  Values and philosophies that are as humanitarian and universal as possible are supported.  Racial, sexual or cultural prejudices are decried.  It may even bring out a terrific sense of humor in some.

Mercury in Capricorn

Mercury enters Capricorn on Sunday, December 20th at 6:07 p.m. EST bringing energies that can create a mind that is very steady, serious, and sincere.  This is a time when you may find it possible to meditate deeply for long periods of time.  It also allows a person to be very thorough with detail and still never lose sight of the whole picture.

I can provide patience, a good memory, and the ability to be responsible.  Ideas need to be practical in order to be considered important and of value.

The downside to this energy is the possibility of being suspicious and causing a person to examine facts with a great deal of care.  In some cases, this can be a good thing while in others, not so much.  There is also a tendency to be pessimistic, fearful or depressed.  During this transit, a person should strive to be more optimistic and cheerful.Capricorn 7

Then we come to the Winter Solstice, known to some as Yule.  Tat time of the longest night and the shortest day, when the Sun is reborn.  That rebirth happens when the Sun enters Capricorn at 5:02 a.m. EST on Monday, December 21st.

Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, which is a contracting, heavy energy.  An earth sign, Capricorn is practical, efficient, patient, persistent, and ambitious.  It also provides a dry sense of humor.  The other side, the contracting side, can cause people to appear cold, rigid, intolerably conventional, and pessimistic.  It also provides people affected by its energies with the ability to withdraw from the chaos and turbulence of the outside world and bide their time until the situation  is ripe for their ambition.

It is within these heavy energies that our forbearers celebrated the rebirth of the Sun to lift their spirits and look with hope to the lengthening rays of that Sun for the longer days and shorter nights that would herald the coming of Spring.

Wishing you all a very joyous holiday season!

Finally, we come to that Grand Conjunction that happens right after the Winter Solstice occurs.  The actual conjunction happens at 1:21 p.m. EST on December 21st.  If you wish to view it, it’s said you should look to the western horizon about 45 minutes after sundown.

People have been passing memes stating this will look like the Christmas Star or the Solstice Star.  The truth is, most astronomers agree that, even though the two planets sill be 0.1 degree apart, most of us will be able to tell that it’s two separate planets.

AS I stated last time, there are a few astrologers who are heralding this as being the real beginning of the Age of Aquarius, especially since Pluto will be joining Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius in 2023.

This conjunction is being deemed the most important astrological transit of the year.  In their words, “This is BIG.”  They have good reason for saying that as these two planets will be shifting from Capricorn, an earth element sign, to Aquarius, an air element sign.  Earth element signs deal with consumerism, material valuers, and money while Air element signs deal with intellect, information, and collaboration.

The Jupiter-Saturn cycles are about 20 years in length, but the Jupiter-Saturn elemental cycles are approximately 200 years long.  We’ve been in the earth elemental cycle since 1802.  Being in the sign of Capricorn has made some level of despair the norm and now we will be shifting into the air elemental where the time has come to liberate the individual in each of us!

This is the closest these two planets have been to each other since 1623 and the closest observable since 1226!

A new age of enlightenment dawns as we shift from top-down hierarchies to networking and collaboration.  As we proceed to 2023, when Pluto joins Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius, we will witness profound transformation in both the world and society.  Be aware though that elemental energy shifts always come with disruption initially.

For the individual, this can mean different things for different people.  If you know where the sign of Aquarius happens in your natal chart, you might want to check out my article from last time where I listed what it can mean, depending on what house it falls in in your individual chart.

No matter, this will be quite the event, both to see and experience its effects.  Could it possibly bring us the uplifting change we’ve all been hoping for?  I guess we’ll see.

Love & Blessed Be
