Astrological Musings & More

Planetary Alignment

There are some strange energies out and about right now. For one, there is almost no planetary movement. By that I mean, except for the Moon, no other planets are moving from their current sign to the next sign in the zodiac. This is somewhat unusual, although not totally rare.

Virgo 4

Then there’s the upcoming New Moon (more about that at the end of the article) which will then make FIVE planetary bodies in the sign of Virgo. I know that this has probably happened before, perhaps in another sign, but I honestly can’t remember when.

On Friday and Saturday, August 30th and 31st, the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars, and the Moon will all be in Virgo within a few degrees of each other. Even after the Moon moves into Libra in the evening of the 31st, we still have four planets in Virgo. All these planets are inner planets in the solar system and are, therefore, considered personal planets or dealing with us as individuals.

So what does that mean for you and me? First of all, that answer can differ from person to person. It all depends on where Virgo is in your natal chart and whether you have any planets in Virgo. For example, I have no planets, asteroids, or anything else in Virgo, but the entire sign of Virgo is encompassed in my 7th house of partnerships. Although that could point to my marriage partnership, it could also relate to any form of partnership – intimate, business, familial, etc. So, I will be keeping myself aware of my interactions with other people to see what this energy might bring.

Virgo is ruled by the planet Mercury, but is an earth sign. That points to intellectual pursuits and communications (in all forms) being of a practical nature. Virgo is very analytical which can be helpful in any situation where attention to detail is called for, but, if not watched, can turn to being overly critical of situations, people, and even ourselves. Virgo is also great for getting things organized and thus can be helpful in cleaning and organizing our homes, offices, cars, etc. Perhaps the Universe is trying to tell us to get our ducks in a row or just to get our shit together!

Retrograde Planets 2

If having all those planets in Virgo isn’t strange enough for you, add to that that we have FOUR planets still retrograde – Saturn in Capricorn, Uranus in Taurus, Neptune in Pisces, and Pluto in Capricorn. Although not all these planets are in earth signs, three out of four of them are. If nothing else, to me, the Universe seems to be trying to tell us to stay ground and centered. Both Saturn and Neptune are in the signs they rule, making their retrograde energies even stronger in their message about work we need to be doing.

In brief, Saturn in Capricorn retrograde brings lessons involving discipline and responsibility; Uranus in Taurus brings unique lessons about the way we look at money and material security; Neptune in Pisces wants us to look at our illusions both as individuals and as a culture; and Pluto in Capricorn wants us to take responsibility for transforming ourselves and our lives through ridding ourselves of anything holding us back – that takes discipline. As I said, these are brief descriptions of what each retrograde is offering in the form of lessons to help us grow.

Jupiter in Sagittarius

It’s interesting that Jupiter is the only planet neither in the sign of Virgo or in retrograde motion. It’s in its home sign of Sagittarius which means there are energies for expanding whatever we feel we most need more of in our lives. Yes, very interesting.

New Moon in Virgo

Perhaps that’s the reason why this all starts with the New Moon in Virgo on Friday, August 30th at 6:37 a.m. EDT. With the Sun and Moon both in Virgo (along with Mercury, Venus, and Mars), it’s an excellent time to put ourselves and our lives under a microscope and take a good, long look at where we are and where we want to be. After all, New Moons are for new beginnings.

Virgo is the natural ruler of the sixth house of health and service. Perhaps the time has come to take some steps toward good health of both mind and body. Perhaps instead of being so much in service to others, it’s time to be in service to yourself.

Take the time to think, in a practical manner, of a goal you want to achieve and then place your focus there and work hard towards it. Virgo energies are definitely here to help!

I would love to hear back from some of you what happened during this time of intense Virgo energies and four retrograde planets. I’m sure others would like to know as well!

Until next time…
