I ended my last “Musings” with the suggestion that you take a different perspective to all the retrograde planets we’re experiencing now – looking at them as opportunities to better understand yourself and make better the life you are living.
When I started thinking about writing this issue of “Musings”, it occurred to me that perhaps if I went through what each of these retrograde planets was offering each of us, you might pick something from them and focus on that, using the planet’s retrograde energies to help you.
Mercury is in Leo and will only be retrograde for about another nine days. This combination invokes a use of both head and heart. The trick in using it successfully is not to get ahead of yourself. Don’t try to solve problems that don’t, and may never, exist yet. It’s also about truth. Don’t allow yourself to exaggerate neither your problems now your accomplishments. In other words, Mercury retrograde is trying to get you to believe in yourself through the combination of the use of your heart and mine while being totally honest with yourself and others.
Mars in Aquarius will stay retrograde until August 27th, but will move into Capricorn late on the 12th. In the time that remains, you could tap these energies to free yourself of limitations. These can be either self-imposed or placed on you by others. It’s about going where you’ve never gone before in a way you’ve never done before. Thinking outside the proverbial box will create adventures you’ve only dreamed of thus far. Tradition be damned! It’s time for a little excitement.
Saturn in Capricorn will remain retrograde until September 6th. With Saturn in the sign that it rules, there are karmic lessons possibly at play. This is about bringing to fruition something that you may have been working on for lifetimes. What you accomplish is not as important as the inner meaning it brings to you. If you know your natal chart, you can see the area that this retrograde is happening in and it will give you a clue to the work you came to finish.
Uranus in Taurus will be retrograde even as it moves backward into Aries on November 6th. For now, using the retrograde energies of Uranus in Taurus, the lessons may be about both your financial and emotional stability. If either or both of these should become shaky, it offers you the opportunity to become more determined to establish yourself. This can be a time to break crystallized beliefs from many lifetimes so that you can progress. Uranus will assist you in lifting yourself from your lower self into an awareness that what you may have believed is safety and well-being is really built on false foundations.
Neptune in its home sign of Pisces continues to be retrograde until November 24th. This is a time to confront your illusions about spirituality, values, the arts, nature, and even all things mysterious, magical, and make-believe. It can offer you the opportunity for unprecedented inspiration but it can also be a time of great disillusionment and pain as your favorite beliefs become slowly eroded and undermined. There’s often a feeling of weariness and/or spiritual and emotional exhaustion. This is the time to take a close look at any tendency to deny or evade rather than deal with problems. Look for places you may be taking the easy way out. Look for ways which offer hope for a better future and be willing to lay the necessary groundwork to manifest it.
Finally, we have Pluto in Capricorn and it will remain retrograde until late in the day on September 30th. For individuals, this placement of Pluto is about letting go. If you’ve been carrying about unnecessary “stuff”, from this lifetime or others, this is the energy that can help you get rid of it for good. In truth, you are the only one who can decide what that might be or if there’s more than one thing that needs to be left by the wayside for good, however, it can deal with responsibilities (either real or imagined), guilt, goals that were imposed on you rather than your own choice, or even traditions that you continue, not from choice, but because they were thrust upon you and you just never let go. Pluto is about transformation and now all that transformative energy is rushing at you, waiting to be used.
So there you have it. A whole smorgasbord of choices to reshape your world energetically. All you have to do is reach out and make use of them.
Speaking of energies, here are the other ones we will be dealing with for the next two weeks:
There’s a New Moon in Leo happening on Saturday, August 11th @ 5:58 a.m. EDT. A partial solar eclipse will be happening that will be seen in places like the Artic, Greenland, and most of northern Asia.
When the Moon is in Leo, people who are affected by its energies are generally very loving and idealist. Relationships with a potential for growth either by understanding, appreciation, affection, or even business deals are sought.
The energies of this placement bring a fondness for children, art, sports, entertainment – including parties, in all forms. There may also be a fondness for being the center of attention. After all, we are talking about Leo and, with a New Moon, both the Sun and Moon are placed there.
Sometimes that need to be noticed and appreciated can cause a tendency to be unbearably self-dramatic. It can also cause stubbornness and a tendency to dominate others, especially people close to them.
It’s got its positive side too. The energies create kindness and generosity and it also gives much intuition, vitality, energy, and resourcefulness.
As to new beginnings, Leo is ruled by the Sun and the Sun represents success. Whether your objective is to have a successful business, relationship, or something else, you can use the dynamic energy of this New Moon to get you well on your way to that goal.
The next day, on Sunday, August 12th, Mars will make it’s move backward into Capricorn @ 10:13 p.m. EDT. Yes, it will still be retrograde, but now it will activate the energies of Capricorn as it continues to move backward until August 27th.
A retrograde Mars in Capricorn is bringing energies back to us that will call attention to our feelings of self-worth. You may discover a conflict between the impulses of your youth and the reserve of old(er) age. Because of a need for acceptance, are you seeking life experiences with people whose ages are different than your own? Only you know that one for sure.
Capricorn is an especially karmic sign, being ruled by Saturn. This can cause people affected by these energies to be able to plainly see the effects of all they cause more than others do and this ultimately makes them realize that they are responsible for all of their actions.
Within the spiritual side of your being lies the answers to much of what you seek. There is no limit to what you can achieve if you allow that part of you to be your guide.
Let the trumpets sound! Mercury in Leo will turn direct from its retrograde motion on Sunday, August 19th @ 0:25 a.m. EDT.
Now that those energies are once again moving forward, learn to listen to both your head and your heart before making any major decisions or taking any major moves.
This is an excellent position for leadership, so don’t shy away if you’re asked to take a leading role in some project, event, or job. It lends the ability to plan and direct so go for it!
This is an energy that gives mental self-confidence and makes for a positive ability in tackling and solving problems.
Can it really be that late in the year already? On Thursday, August 23rd, the Sun will begin its annual transit through the sign of Virgo @ 0:09 a.m. EDT.
Ruled by Mercury, it is quite different from Gemini being an earth sign. Although those born under this sign enjoy adaptability and freedom, they are introverted and practical.
This energy is detail-oriented and good for analyzing anything and everything. If you’ve got detailed work to be done, while the Sun is in Virgo, the energies are abundant to help in that area. Cleaning, organizing, drawing a detailed map of something, it all benefits being done in the sign of Virgo.
Virgo is also good for businesses as well as there is a need to work, be useful, and be of service. That’s all beside the attention to detail and analyze. You will find the energies of this placement also create dependability and sincerity – also good for business.
The “flaws” of this sign are a tendency to sometimes become over critical of those around them and, sometime, even themselves. It’s just that whole attention to detail thing.
Virgo also deals with digestion so, if you have concerns in this area, be aware of the food you eat and the condition of your health during this transit.
Well, that’s it for now. May the energies of the retrogrades aid you in your journey of enlightenment!
