I was going back through some of my previous articles and ran across this one from December, 2014. I hope you will enjoy it.
“Opposites attract.” You’ve probably heard that phrase at least once in your life. Have you ever wondered why that is? Until I became an astrologer and began to look at the signs of the zodiac and the ones opposing them I had no real clue why that would be true.
Case in point: I’m a Taurus and my husband of over 20 years is a Scorpio. Yep, exact opposite signs on the zodiac wheel. Truth be told, we are so opposite, some have wondered how and why we are still together. You see, he’s a day person and I’m a night person; he’s an extrovert and I’m an introvert; he’s physically oriented and I have never had any interest in expending any more energy than absolutely necessary. The list goes on, but you get the picture.
So, what ARE we doing together? Well, there are a few things we do share: a spiritual path and we are both artists, but I think what’s even more important is what we can learn from each other.
The energies of opposing sides provide an opportunity for unique perspectives that are 180 degrees from how we currently see things. That allows us to stretch and grow in our understanding of others and also it permits the opportunity to rethink our perspective of our life-walk from “the other side of the road”, so to speak.
This is true of all the opposing sign combinations: Aries/Libra; Taurus/Scorpio; Gemini/Sagittarius; Cancer/Capricorn; Leo/Aquarius; and Virgo/Pisces.
There is something else to take into consideration. Even as a Taurus, by myself, there are times when I pull that Scorpio energy to me. It’s quite natural to do that – a push/pull dance of energies within oneself. While I can be quite practical and steadfast, I can become a seeker of revenge when angered or secretive when circumstances call for it. These and other traits are from the Scorpio energy, just like regeneration, intensity, subtlety, jealousy, suspicion, etc. are available for my use in this energy dance with my opposite sign.
So, why do opposites attract? In my opinion and understanding of astrology, I would say to help us to learn and grow. We learn little from those who are very much like us and learn a great deal from those who are very different – if we open ourselves and allow that experience to happen.
Speaking of opening ourselves to learning, every New Moon offers the opportunity for new beginnings. It’s a time to reflect on where we have come on our journey and where we now want to go.
On Tuesday, January 16th, at 9:17 p.m. EST, there will be a New Moon occurring in Capricorn. Just like every other New Moon, that means the Sun is also in Capricorn and Capricorn provides a very practical energy especially in the area of the everyday necessities of life.
Besides being practical, Capricorn is also efficient, patient, persistent, and ambitious. These are the energies to focus on for that new beginning.
With both the Sun and Moon being ruled by Saturn, its contractive nature allows for introspection and meditation. These energies require caution, restraint, and time. Be willing to bide your time until the situation is ripe for what you seek to achieve.
Yes, it is true that the Moon in Capricorn can create sluggish energies and some may find negativity and pessimism creeping in, but if you concentrate and focus on the positive traits of the sign and find reasons to be grateful and to smile, Capricorn will help you get where you want to go.
The next day, Wednesday, January 17th, we have Venus moving into Aquarius at 8:44 p.m. EST.
This is an unusual energy for Venus, making love more Universal than personal. Even in personal relationships, it would be difficult for someone affected by these energies to settle down with just one person. Romantic attractions will often happen suddenly and are usually casual. They will not necessarily be stable or lasting.
People affected by these energies will find intellectual stimulation important in both romance and marriage. There may even be an attraction to those who are ingenious or eccentric.
Freedom is another important factor in relationships with those under the influence of this placement. Jealousy and possessiveness will cause these freedom lovers to back away.
The energies of this transit offer us the opportunity to love beyond the personal to all of humanity. It also offers us the chance to become aware of how important our freedom is to us.
When the Sun enters Aquarius on Friday, January 19th, at 10:10 p.m. EST, a light shines on the path of uniqueness. We have a real chance to learn to think outside the box, be independent, original, and make many new friends.
After the heavy, even depressing for some, transit of the Sun in Capricorn, Aquarius can be like a breath of fresh air (no pun intended) in the middle of Winter. It sort of throws open the door to ingenuity and creativity and allows us to look at things from a totally new, even unconventional perspective.
These energies allow us to be more inventive, intellectual, revolutionary (which can become rebellious, for some) in our lives and our problem solving. This is the time to take a look at the things that may be weighing us down or holding us back and make use of these Aquarian energies to help find the key you’ve been looking for to solving the problem! You might be surprised at the fresh, new approach you find!
Happy Birthday to all those born under this sign!!!
Mars moves into Sagittarius at 7:57 a.m. EST on Friday, January 26th bringing with it a strong sense of justice. Inner strength will be found in a positive philosophy of life.
A fiery planet in a fire sign also provides courage and will allow some to be good at debate and persuasion. It will also provide spontaneity, which can be a plus, but at times can contribute to sloppiness in living and work.
Relationships will happen spontaneously and be fun while they last, but probably won’t last long. Unless any activity has a great potential to improve ones life, interest will pass quickly and motivation will be low.
Interestingly, with Sagittarius dealing with the spiritual, this is an excellent time to develop psychic abilities, especially the ability to foresee future events. Unfinished business from past lives may arise now and some of this may be from a tendency to make mountains out of molehills.
This is a very active placement that can help you move forward, especially in the spiritual side of your life, if you focus the energy and not let it run away with you.
Wishing you all a warm and pleasant two weeks!
Love & Blessed Be
