In about 2 weeks, for the first time since February 26, 1979, there will be a total solar eclipse visible over the United States.
This one, occurring on August 21st at 2:30 p.m. EDT, will be seen in a 70 mile wide band that crosses the USA from West to East, beginning in Lincoln Beach, Oregon at 9:05 a.m. PDT. The total eclipse will begin there at 10:16 a.m. PDT. It will then cross over the US through Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, and finally North and South Carolina. NASA has a great web page set up with all kinds of information, if you’re interested. Click “Total Eclipse” to go there.
What does this mean astrologically? Well, we won’t know for sure for about six months, but here are some things to think about:
Even though only a small portion of the US will see the total eclipse, other areas will see from 75 to 90 percent coverage. One of these areas is Washington D.C. where the eclipse will be seen at about 90%.
Why should this matter to any of us? This eclipse will be happening at about 28 degrees Leo in the area of the fixed, royal star Regulus. Regulus is located in the heart of the constellation of Leo the Lion. Leo represents leadership just as Regulus was seen in Persia as having to do with rulership/royalty.
Our current President, Donald Trump, has Regulus conjunct both his Mars and his Ascendant. This eclipse will be happening in his 12th house of self-undoing and secrets.
Knowing that astrological energies are dependent on how they are used, you could spin this in either direction – in his favor, if you’re one of his supporters or against him, if you’re not a fan. The fact remains something of importance should be seen to happen where he is concerned with where it will be happening in his chart and with his position as President.
For the rest of us, it will depend on the evolution of the souls who are touched by this eclipse. The energies can be twisted by how they affect each individual, but for the most part they’re about loyalty, courage, and helping others.
There’s a weird twist with the Moon being trine to the planet Uranus that will bring the energies of personal freedom, revolution, genius, original and eccentric thinking. Innovators and inventors are favored.
The Moon being conjunct to Mars will provide energies that make people good in emergency situations with super-fast reaction and extra-sensitive instincts.
I think it will be a very interesting time for us all to observe.
While we wait to see what that Solar Eclipse may present to us, we do have a Full Moon in Aquarius happening on Monday, August 7th at 2:11 p.m. EDT.
With a Leo Sun and an Aquarius Moon, energies now will give the ability to judge human nature quickly. It also gives intuition and some very marked occult tendencies. This combination will also provide energies for much determination and will power.
The Moon in Aquarius, by itself, is very imaginative which can provide positive channels for creations in the arts. This creative imagination can bring about innovations in many areas of life, not just for oneself, but for the world as a whole. Aquarius is all about being a humanitarian.
Being broadminded and freedom are important issues to those affected by these energies. This causes those who are affected by these energies to be trailblazers for others.
This is a time when unusual relationships may be formed and/or the study of metaphysics and occult sciences may take place.
The only real drawback is that of allowing ones vivid imagination to deteriorate into gossip and rumor spreading. This will probably not be done with malice, but could bring unfortunate backlashes.
This is a Lunar Eclipse so it is possible to use the energies of this Full Moon to take power away from anything that hampers your growth and your journey through this lifetime.
The only other astrological event happening in these two weeks is Mercury in Virgo turning retrograde on Saturday, August 12th at 9:01 p.m. EDT.
While this is a strong position for Mercury, it is primarily an intellectual one where, people affected by this position of Mercury, will approach everything with pure reason. With it turning retrograde, it can bring those energies back at us and make us appear to be strict, cold, and having little tolerance for disorder. It could find us expressing strong opinions on how others should be living their lives. In other words, we could become overly critical of others while deflecting the attention actually needed to be directed within ourselves.
The good news is that joy will be found in the confidence derived from solving problems, especially those that others have been unable to resolve.
The lesson of this retrograde is to not look outward but inward and meticulously take inventory and study the qualities found there.
Okay, things are quiet for now as we ramp up to that Solar Eclipse. Stay positive, express your gratitude for what you do have, and find many reasons to smile each day!
