A friend recently posted an article on my Facebook timeline that she thought I might find interesting. Entitled, Your Mission on Planet Earth in Astrology – Earth in the Signs of the Zodiac, I did find the author’s thoughts and perceptions interesting, but I also found myself with a “headache” because of how I learned astrology all those years ago.
While I found it interesting that, according to the author – Agent Susannah Meel, she felt that if the Earth was inserted into the astrology chart it would be in the sign opposite the one the Sun was in at the time, I also found it confusing since I was taught the Earth was the center of the chart. While she may have a point, mine is that, since we are on planet Earth, our perspective is that everything astronomical and astrological is happening all around us. That doesn’t mean we are the center of the solar system (although I can understand how this perspective allowed our ancestors to believe the solar system was Earth-centric), it only means that this is the point from which we perceive the planets, asteroids, etc. and how the energies of those same bodies affect us here on Earth.
She also raises the question of what will happen to our astrology when we start to spend time off the planet. I agree that, at that time, a glyph for Earth will have to find a place in forms of astrology like horary astrology charts, progressed astrology charts, and others. Right now, however, for me Earth remains the center of the astrology chart.
One other thing to think about. When we do start traveling into space for long periods of time, astrology will need a complete overhaul for those born off-planet. To colonize Mars, for example, those born there will need a new astrology that places Mars in the center of the chart with Earth and the other planets, asteroids, etc. circling it in the horoscope chart. That, along with new definitions of what all the heavenly bodies mean from this Martian perspective, could keep an astrologer or astrologers busy for quite some time!
Here’s one last piece of perspective to contemplate for a while: what about astrology on “generation” ships? People may be born, live, and die on them as they continually move toward their ultimate destination. What kind of new astrology will need to be formulated to be effectively used under those circumstances?
Hard to wrap your mind around that one? Yeah, me too. That fact that remains is that as we move out into space, astrology will change – radically. While some of you may be saying, “What need will they have of astrology?”, I say, it’s been with us for millennia and I have no doubt that where we go it will go with us in some way, shape, or form.

The last two weeks have passed quickly and we are now faced with another New Moon on Sunday, July 23rd at 5:46 a.m. EDT.
The Sun and Moon will both be in Leo which speaks to energies that are independent, kind-hearted, and generous along with the possibility of pride, vanity, and snobbery. There is much vitality, resourcefulness, and intuition as well.
Needless to say, since Leo rules the heart, matters of the heart are favored, especially those where a potential for growth exists through understanding, appreciation, and affection. Friends and lovers should be chosen with discrimination so that sadness and bitterness are avoided.
Loving and lovable are keywords here. There’s also a fondness for children, parties, art, sports, and other forms of entertainment. Sounds like it’s time to have some fun with all kinds of people!
Be aware of the tendency toward stubbornness and the sometimes need to dramatize ones feelings. That self-dramatization can merely be a cry for recognition, admiration, and appreciation.
This is a time for enjoyment and warmth. Make a wish!
Mercury will be transiting into Virgo on Tuesday, July 25th at 7:41 p.m. EDT. A strong position for Mercury that is primarily intellectual.
For individuals affected by this energy, everything may be approached by pure reason, leaving feelings (both their own and those of others) out of consideration. This can be a good thing if you’re a scientist, doctor, or nurse – although patients might need a little more sympathy than they are willing to give.
There’s a very practical and down-to-earth quality about this placement that can be of great assistance if your need requires organizing, attention to detail, or analytical ability.
A great position for writing or learning a language, or even solving an abstract problem.
On Monday, July 31st, Venus moves into the sign of Cancer at 10:54 a.m. EDT. It is here that some will find a real need for any emotional outlet in order to stay in a balanced state with their health and well-being.
You may find your feelings running deep and quiet. Memories will bring sentimental feelings to the surface, especially where family is concerned.
This is a time when you may find you love and appreciate the comforts you have as well as those small conveniences that we sometimes overlook.
Cancer rules the stomach and love of food could cause some to overindulge and thus suffer the consequences later. This placement really can promote emotional eating so, if you find yourself affected by its energies, be aware of how much you allow yourself to partake of.
This can be a very pleasant, enjoyable time, if you are willing to be honest with yourself about what you are feeling and why. Cancer likes to nurture, so take time to nurture yourself during this transit.
Uranus, which is in Aries right now, will go retrograde on Thursday, August 3rd, at 1:31 a.m. EDT
When Uranus is in Aries, there’s an energy that moves some people to blaze new trails, particularly in science and social reform. That may be because energies here are courageous, daring, resourceful, and filled with initiative.
People can be blunt and outspoken, demanding change and refusing to live by the “old” rules. Freedom is of paramount importance and the spirit of adventure is strong.
When Uranus goes retrograde in Aries, and the energies are coming back at us, we are reminded that we are highly individualistic and unique. We are also being given the message that we need spontaneity in our lives and that it may be time to break with some traditions; go over, around or through some barriers and fine some of the excitement we may have given up in order to feel secure.
Retrograde Uranus in Aries is telling us to walk where there are no footsteps in front of us and look at everything from a new perspective. It’s time to be courageous, independent, and ingenious in our approach to Life!
Wishing you a glorious two weeks!
