Mercury just went into Leo this week and will only be there a short time before it enters Virgo later this month. Of the planets, it is the fastest moving, which only makes sense when you’re that close to the Sun.
It is now also the smallest of the planets, since the demotion of Pluto, but that doesn’t stop it from having a huge impact on people every time it goes retrograde. Sometimes I have to smile at the reactions of people when they hear that this tiny planet will be going retrograde. You’d think an asteroid was about to crash into the Earth!
Such is the burden it has to bear for being a planet whose energies influence all forms of communication, travel, study, intellect, interpretation, reasoning capabilities, memory and more. What people don’t realize is that, just like Mercury of mythology, it’s only a messenger.
Mercury’s energies are neither masculine nor feminine; neither positive nor negative. It is the link between spirit and matter; soul and personality. The sign that it’s in gives it “coloring” and brings the message of what this energy might mean for each of us as individuals. Here’s the important part – Mercury does nothing to us, it’s what we do with the energies of Mercury in the sign that it’s in, whether it’s direct or retrograde, that affect our lives.
A retrograde Mercury is a time of caution and orderly thinking. It can bring changes in plans or create indecision. The important thing that a retrograde Mercury can offer us is a chance to look at the meaning of the energies of the sign it’s in and see if there is work we need to do. It can be from this lifetime or a past lifetime, but situations may be presented to us that can help us to work through parts of our lives that are unfinished or need repair and healing.
May we all pay more attention to the messages that Mercury brings to us!
There’s a Full Moon taking place in the sign of Capricorn at 0:07 a.m. EDT on Sunday, July 9th. Not the easiest of Full Moons to work with.
Moon in Capricorn can weigh us down emotionally, if we aren’t careful, and also make it difficult to express those emotions. While it is practical, the energy can be sluggish making it difficult for some to move forward and make progress.
With the Sun in Cancer, there can be a little more ambition, especially where business is concerned. This is a time for keeping one’s attention on goals and using it for motivation to work diligently toward them. That sense of duty and responsibility toward achieving goals, especially financial ones, can be very helpful at this time.
Mars will enter Leo on Thursday, July 20th at 8:20 a.m. EDT. This creates energies of self-confidence, willpower, and optimism. These are the energies that support working for yourself in such areas as art, acting, make-up artist, dancer, jewelry making or selling, to name a few.
As with any planet and sign combination, there is a down-side to these energies, such as flares of temper – although usually easily appeased, being a bit too pushy, wanting/needing to be the center of attention, and even a tendency to be domineering.
This is the kind of energy of a leader. When delicately blended and balanced, all the above traits can produce someone who is highly motivated and very productive. Tap into this energy if you could use that boost to take you where you want to go!
It’s Summer and the skies are relatively quiet this time. I wish you a very pleasant two weeks and will see you again soon!
