In the northern hemisphere, we’ve been enjoying the lengthening of the daylight. Even though I consider myself a “night owl”, I feel invigorated by the Sun bringing long days and short nights.

The Sun, in astrology, represents ambition, pride, leadership, self-expression, determination, confidence, courage, and creative ability – to name a few. As opposed to your Ascendant or Rising Sign, which represents the mask you wear to the outside world, your Sun sign represents who you are at your core. You may never share that part of you, keeping your mask on at all times, but still the qualities of your Sun sign speak to who you are in this lifetime.

The energies of the Sun help us to create, achieve, sustain, promote, gives hope and brings illumination, if we allow it.

Although there are many things to consider, when learning about ones natal astrology, just like the Sun in our solar system, our Sun sign is at the center of all the other energies that we cloaked ourselves in on the day of our birth. The placement of your natal Sun, in both its sign and house, will reveal a great deal of important information that could be very useful in understanding yourself and your life.

There’s a New Moon happening on Friday, June 23rd, at 10:31 p.m. EDT. Both the Sun and Moon will be in the sign of Cancer.

This is the sign ruled by the Moon thus making lunar qualities the strongest and most easily expressed now. So, what are we talking about when we speak of lunar qualities? We’re talking emotional, domestic, sensitive, and intuitive, for starters.

Cancer energy is very family and home-oriented. That also makes them sentimental and nurturing. This is an energy that would cause one to strive to learn family history and genealogy.

Being sensitive and emotional can lead to being possessive or even obsessive when it comes to those they love. That also opens a person up to being easily hurt by those they love. If those affected by these energies do become hurt, they may never show it or say anything because they don’t like confrontation. They may, however, become quite “crabby”, the crab being the symbol of Cancer.

This being a New Moon, you may find you have a problem with inertia (laziness), but with a New Moon comes the opportunity for change and that may be just the motivation needed as Cancer has much changeableness.

Cancer is a water sign and water signs are both psychic/intuitive and fruitful. So, this New Moon, may be offering you just the energies you need for that new beginning you’ve been wanting – especially if it has to do with home and/or family. How will you know? Pay attention to your quiet, inner voice. The message may tell you which direction you need to go in and how to get there!

 

Venus moves into Gemini on Tuesday, July 4th, at 8:12 p.m. EDT. Venus isn’t at it’s best here. Why? Well, Venus is basically emotional while Gemini is rational.

If you are affected by these energies, and there’s nothing in your chart to help bolster passion, you may find your approach to emotions – love especially – will be mental and spiritual. You will intellectualize love.

It’s not unlikely that love may come your way in pairs or larger numbers. This will only cause difficulty in deciding which one to chose. Gemini energies want to really think things through, looking at it from many perspectives. Then again, you may choose not to choose and just enjoy the moment and popularity!

People can become a little distant, not wanting to be touched. Don’t take it personally. It’s more than likely a result of the energies that cause some to want to think more about love than physically participate in it.

On Wednesday, July 5th, at 8:20 p.m. EDT, Mercury will move into the sign of Leo. Here we have an excellent combination of mind and heart. There are energies for impressive intellect (Mercury) and also compassionate emotions (Leo) that will help to create good works for people.

This is the energy of leadership. Plans may be created on a grand scale and will be implemented with purpose and continuity. This is an excellent energy for humanitarian work.

While there is much good to this energy, it can affect some in a way that causes them to be boastful, proud, ostentatious, and even angry when they don’t get their own way.

Overall, though, it’s an excellent energy for any project that requires the human touch and mental self-confidence.
