The old year is winding down and we wait with anticipation for what the new year will bring. For now, many of us are busy getting ready for the holidays that celebrate the ending of the old and the birth of the new. For that reason, I’m keeping this article short. I only want to remind you, that the new year can be anything you’d like it to be. All it takes is being aware of the energies and working with them.
Having said that, we begin with a Full Moon, happening in the sign of Gemini, on Tuesday, December 13th at 7:05 p.m. EST.
Moon in Gemini stimulates the imagination and this can be very good for any kind of creative work. If you are affected by this energy, I advise you to keep your mind active and directed. Without this focus, some may find themselves dealing in idle gossip. At its worst, Moon in Gemini can cause people to find enjoyment in telling lies and totally forgetting the truth.
With the Sun in Sagittarius, there can be a restlessness for some. Activity, and lots of it, is the only solution. Without it, there can be nervousness, hastiness in speech, and a tendency to become overexcited.
This Full Moon has a lot of energy to it. If you want to use that energy beneficially, it’s a great time for ridding yourself of any person, place or thing that no longer serves you or brings you joy. The Sagittarius Sun is a fire planet in a fire sign. Gemini is a barren sign for the Moon to be in. Combine the two and you have a duo that’s made for “burning bridges”, “pulling weeds”, and just generally cleaning out and throwing away those things that have stayed too long.
In your efforts to keep busy and/or remove things from your life, don’t spread yourself too thin. Also don’t become so excited by so many ideas that you are unable to follow through on them.
An excellent Full Moon energy to end a number “9” year on!
On Monday, December 19th, at 4:23 a.m. EST, Mars will move into Pisces. A difficult placing for the forward-moving planet Mars.
The energies here are kind, forgiving, and assist us in being good listeners. It can cause people to be shy and non-aggressive.
It can cause people affected by these energies to be too influenced by others and can cause some to have a tendency to wander through life with no goals. Care should be taken with alcohol and drugs of any kind.
This is a good placement if you are interested in psychology or anything that has to do with the occult. This can be a very good time to explore some artistic avenue and help to further develop your creativity. It’s also good for sharpening ones intuition.
Where sex and love are concerned, Mars in Pisces can cause people to have a “take it to leave it” attitude. After all, a fire planet in a water sign can have a tendency to put the heat of passion out.
Emphasize the good and watch for the not-so-good and this can be a very enlightening transit.
Mercury, which is presently in Capricorn, will be going retrograde on Monday, December 19th, at 5:55 a.m. EST. Before anyone asks me, this retrograde motion of Mercury will last until Sunday, January 8th at 4:43 a.m. EST.
This retrograde of Mercury brings to us the opportunity of being able to both think deeply and understand on a deep level things about ourselves that we haven’t realized. It gives a great sense of perspective.
The hard part lies in the difficulties in our personal relationships. People will have a tendency to lose patience with us because they don’t understand what we are trying to do or build.
This can be a meaningful, contemplative, practical time. Becoming more in tune with your own thought patterns, rather than the flow of forces in the outer world, you will begin consider the end result of your goals and see the steps that you might take towards achieving them.
This retrograde of Mercury will allow you to stop doing things the hard way, if you are willing to use its energies to your best benefit.
The Winter Solstice, or Yule to some of us, happens when the Sun makes its yearly transit through the sign of Capricorn. This year, it occurs on Wednesday, December 21st, at 5:45 a.m. EST.
This is a time of the longest night. It is also the rebirth of the Sun. The days will now begin to grow longer as the nights grow shorter.
For human beings, Capricorn is a time to persevere, to overcome obstacles, and, just like the Sun, keep climbing. It’s a practical sign and sometimes practicality is the key to success.
Ruled by Saturn, this is a time to learn about our self-imposed limitations. These are what keep us from achieving our goals. Saturn can also cause us to be serious to the point of melancholia. This is a good time to remember to “lighten up” occasionally. (After all, it is the holidays!)
Wishing you and yours a very happy holiday season!!!
