Not since 1967 – called the Summer of Love – has a Full Moon and the Summer Solstice occurred on the same day. This occurrence can happen every 19 years or be a close miss as in the next one, in 2035, when the Full Moon happens on June 20th and the Summer Solstice happening the next day.
When a Full Moon happens, it’s in the opposite sign to the one the Sun is in. So, in 1967, the Summer Solstice happened moving the Sun into Cancer and then the Full Moon happened causing the Moon to be in Capricorn.
Unfortunately, this Full Moon/Summer Solstice combo is merely a happening on the same day. When the Full Moon takes place at 7:02 a.m. EDT, the Sun will still be in Gemini thus making the Full Moon an occurrence in the sign of Sagittarius. Immediately, the Moon goes void until 7:55 a.m. EDT, when it moves into the sign of Capricorn. It’s not until 6:34 p.m. EDT that the Summer Solstice actually takes place and the Sun enters the sign of Cancer. The Moon will actually be waning when the Solstice occurs, but will be in the opposite sign of Cancer.
So what does this all mean? Well, to me, it means there’s lots and lots of energy for change. That little 53 minutes of “void” is a spiritual space we can use to prepare ourselves for a shift in the energies from “thinking” (Gemini) to “feeling” (Cancer). We, too often, ignored how we truly feel about people, situations, and Life in general. Right now, we could all stand to be clearer about how we feel. Right now, the world could use another “Summer of Love”.
In the meantime, that Full Moon will be occurring on Monday, June 20th, at 7:02 a.m. EDT. With it occurring in the sign of Sagittarius, the message is to dream big, aim high and shoot for the stars! It’s a very intuitive, spontaneous, enthusiastic energy.
Moon in Sagittarius stimulates our desire for self-improvement. It does make some of us restless though and a desire for change and movement can be strong. Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter and that’s a planet that’s all about expansion. That “leap of faith” may not look so foreboding anymore. It may actually look quite appealing.
With the combination of the Sun in Gemini and the Moon in Sagittarius, the itch to travel can be strong. Because of feelings of discontinuity, you may feel like a change of course is necessary. Continuing in the same direction doesn’t seem to be taking you where you want to go.
This Sun-Moon combination grants considerable mental capacity, both intellectual and intuitive. When you combine that with the gift of quick and good judgment, listening to your “gut instincts” seems to be the logical thing to do.
The energy of this Full Moon can bring the changes that have desired for far too long. Your choice, but I say, “Go for it!”
Then, later on Monday, June 20th, at 6:34 p.m. EDT, the Sun makes it way into the sign of Cancer causing the event known as the Summer Solstice. This is a time when the day is the longest and the night is the shortest.
Sun in Cancer can be an emotional and sometimes unstable time. It is a water sign after all. The other water signs, Scorpio and Pisces, allow for the flow of that water, but Cancer has a tendency to keep that energy bottled up. It causes people to be very self-repressive, disliking confrontation, side-stepping issues and being evasive.
That’s such a pity since these energies provide a very fertile imagination which can lead to some really inventive ideas. People under the influence of these energies can be quite shrewd and resourceful along with being kind and sympathetic.
The problem is always trying to pry them out of their shell and finding a way to get them to stop being so moody. Getting to know them can be difficult and one must realize that time and patience is necessary if you want to know the real person hiding in that shell.
To all the Cancers I know who have allowed me to become their friends and get to know them (and to all of you that I may get to know in the future)…
Mercury will be joining the Sun in the sign of Cancer on Wednesday, June 29th at 7:24 p.m. EDT causing some to become mentally passive.
The good news is that those affected by the energies of this placement will have a kind of sixth sense and intuition that’s unbeatable. It’s one of those times you know what you know even though you don’t know how you know it!
The downside to this is that you can become ultra-sensitive to people and surroundings. With awareness of this though, you can remove yourself from such situations when you begin to feel uncomfortable or at least shield yourself from the energies.
This is a time when deep-seated emotional patterns can cause people to look at some facts and ignore others creating a bias and prejudice that will interfere with objective thinking. Knowing this, you can question yourself as to how valid your thinking is in any given situation. A good thing to b aware of.
This is a time when our thoughts can reveal to us what our feeling truly are and help us to move forward in our lives.
Mars, which is in Scorpio right now and retrograde, will be turning direct on Wednesday, June 29th at 7:38 p.m. EDT (just after Mercury enters Cancer).
Previously I’ve mentioned that Mars is co-ruler to Scorpio and that gives tremendous potential to do either good or ill for any influenced by the effects of this placement.
“Thoughts are things.” could never be truer than when talking about Mars in Scorpio. Strong likes and dislikes can have incredible power and can be felt by the person or persons who are the object of those feelings.
Intuition is strong here as is psychic potentials in any area, including creative visualization. Anything having to do with the “hidden” side of life will work well now for those influenced by this placement.
Once again, we are brought to a place where we have an opportunity to become aware of our feelings and how they, along with our thoughts, can affect others and ourselves as well.
Summer is finally upon us and, with time moving so fast (wasn’t it just March last week?) I encourage all of you to take some time to enjoy the sunshine and warm temperatures that have been granted to us. Nature is awesome! Enjoy it!
