Astrological Musings & More

Virgo 5In less than two weeks, the Sun will make its yearly transit into the sign of the Virgin, Virgo, on August 23rd this year.

In mythology, Virgo was also known as Astraes, the daughter of Jupiter and Themsis. She was the Goddess of Justice. It is said that, at the end of the Golden Age, when Man defied her, she returned to the heavens in disgust.

Okay…then why does she hold a sheath of grain in most depictions? Well, like so many goddesses from that time, she was also viewed as a goddess of fertility and harvest. Huh? How can that be if she’s the Virgin? Well, in Latin, “Virgo” means “self-contained” or “self-sufficient”. Those born under the sign of Virgo behave in a very individualistic, self-sufficient manner. They don’t need others to bring fulfillment to their lives. They nurture others through creating for them what they are already able to create for themselves.

Those born under the sign of Virgo are usually hard workers who have a great liking for the “details”. They are very practical and very willing to help others – perhaps because Virgo is the natural ruler of the 6th house, the house of service.

They do have a lot of nervous energy and need constant activity even to the point of the definition of ‘relaxation’ being some form of work.

Excessive attention to detail can cause them to lose sight of the ‘big picture’ and become lost in the minutiae of a quest for perfection.

Virgos generally find it easier to express themselves and their thoughts through writing rather than speech. Perhaps this is because it gives them time to be more accurate…paying
attention to those details.

Emotional relationships can be difficult for a Virgo. The placement of Venus in the chart of Virgo can be of great assistance in matters of the heart. Without that assistance, inhibitions and other difficulties can make this part of life harder.

Virgos make good statisticians, accountants, analytical scientists, or even secretaries. Nursing or anything connected health and/or hygiene is another good prospect for a Virgo. They also enjoy their hobbies and will be constantly making and doing in their spare time.

On the positive side, Virgos are discriminating, analytical, meticulous, modest and tidy.

The other side of the coin reveals tendencies to be fussy, a worrier, overly critical, overly fastidious, and finicky.

Virgo, whose ruling planet is Mercury, has a lot to offer themselves and the world if they will just remember to look at the big picture as well as the details; use their ability to create to fulfill that desire to serve; and find fun ways to channel all that nervous energy before it turns into worry.

New Moon in LeoBefore that transit of the Sun, we have a New Moon happening on Friday, August 14th, in the sign of Leo, at 10:53 a.m. EDT.

If you have any “new beginnings” in mind for this New Moon, having both the Sun and Moon in Leo can only lead to success! (After all, Leo is ruled by the Sun.)

While the energy is self-centered and proud, it is also warm and generous. The combination of the Sun and Moon both being in Leo is filled with vitality, intuition and resourcefulness. Perhaps it’s time for some extreme measures? After all, Leo is a very independent energy. Maybe it’s time to march to the beat of your own drummer. Something to think about.

Don’t let the energy take you too far overboard, however. Even with a New Moon, Leo energy can be overly dramatic or dominate too much. You should take advantage of Leo’s sunny disposition and natural curiosity. With that kind of positive energy, who knows what you might attract to yourself that will surprise and delight you!

Virgo 3The Sun will make its move into Virgo on Sunday, August 23rd at 6:38 a.m. EDT. If you weren’t born under the sign of Virgo, there is still a chance that this energy may have an effect on you. If that’s the case, there may be things that require attention to detail that would make this the perfect time to take care of. This is the perfect time for cleaning and organizing your home, office or anywhere else that’s taken on the energies of chaos.

If you like to write, and especially if you’ve had writer’s block or been putting it off, well, Virgo is ruled by Mercury and we all know that Mercury is the planet of communication. So, communicate! Put pen to paper or fingers to keyboard and let those thoughts flow. Time to reap the harvest of your own creative genius!

Take care of health problems, especially any that have to do with the digestive system for it is ruled by Virgo. Whether you have faith in conventional or alternative healing methods (or both) now is the time to pay attention to the details of your body.

To all those born under the sign of Virgo –

Happy Birthday Virgo

Mercury in Libra 2Last, but hardly least, we have Mercury moving into Libra at 11:45 a.m. EDT on Thursday, August 27th. This provides excellent energies for work, study or just investigating such areas as psychology, astrology, public relations, social work, and the law.

Good communication, that is open and honest, is important now. You might even say it’s essential to happiness in relationships.

You may find yourself wanting and needing to consider all sides to an issue before making a decision. In an effort to find harmony and justice, time and scrutiny may be your best tools for success.

You may also find yourself seeking out others who have fine minds and honest reputations for their insights and truthful communications on matters that are important to you.

Phases of the Moon
So I close, wishing you the best of New Moons.  May any endings and beginnings, that you see for yourself, happen with wisdom and joy!
