The skies are pretty quiet right now, as far as planets transiting to other signs, so I thought I would take the time to give you my thoughts about the coming Winter Solstice and what I feel it might mean from an astrological energy perspective.
The Winter Solstice – December 21st – is the time when the Sun moves into the sign of Capricorn. It marks the time when the night is the longest and the day the shortest (obviously). It is also seen as the Sun’s rebirth because now the days will grow longer.
Many, many eyes are turned toward this Winter Solstice in particular because it marks the end of the Mayan calendar and is surrounded with a great deal of supposition as to what that means. Some are expecting massive destruction of the Earth through storms, earthquakes, and even pole shift. Others are looking at it from a more spiritual perspective with even the prospect of the coming of a new spiritual messenger. What do astrologers think? Quite frankly, the answers are just as varied and would take far too long to present here. So, I’m choosing to speak only for myself, my understanding of astrology and my intuition (which has been a faithful friend for many decades).
Having been a teenager in the 1960s, I’m familiar with the Hippie movement and its philosophy of peace and love. I’m also familiar with the common belief of that time that we were in the dawning of the Age of Aquarius. But what IS the Age of Aquarius and what does that mean for each of us – individually and as a group?
To begin with, there’s an interesting fact in that both the Mayan Great Cycle and the Age of Aquarius are based on the precession of the equinoxes. Approximately every 2,150 years (some say 2,160 years) is considered to be an Astrological Age. Take that times 12 and you get 25,800 years (or 25,920 years) or about the time it takes for our solar system to make the round trip from the center of the galaxy and back again. Gee, we’re arriving there now! Coincidence? You decide.
The sign of Aquarius is represented by such keywords as inventive, intellectual, diplomatic, tolerant, independent, humanitarian, and optimistic. I would add individualistic and freedom-loving. For me – and my intuition – that makes the Age of Aquarius a time of becoming individuals by being true to our uniqueness but still being a part of the group called humanity through our humanitarianism.
Now, you may say there are people who do that now and I would agree. We’re looking at these energies awakening mass amounts of people and calling them to be the individuals they came here to be so that they can add their uniqueness and individuality to the efforts of humankind to take care of each other and the Earth we live on.
The ancient Mayans never predicted any doomsday for us. To quote Sandra Musser, in her article Age of Aquarius Traits are Bombarding the Earth to Prepare us for the Next Great Age:
“In fact they did everything they could to inform us of the great “window of OPPORTUNITY for spiritual growth” opening to us during this historic alignment of the earth, the sun and the galactic center of the universe. The Age of Aquarius mimics the ancient Mayas prediction for the next Great Cycle.”
On the journey I have made on the spiritual path I have chosen (Wicca), I have always told students that finding out who they are as an individual was important because that empowering of self by discovering the Self adds to the group. The Age of Aquarius now sends the energies and asks us to wake up to our individuality, to claim the power that resides in our uniqueness and then use that wisdom, knowledge and power to enhance the group known as humankind for the good of all and for good of the Earth as well. It truly is time to awaken to the fact that WE are the spiritual masters we’ve been waiting for!
What a wonderful gift to bestow on ourselves, each other and the Earth in this time of peace, love and giving!!! ~Namaste~
There is a Full Moon occurring on Wednesday, November 28th at 9:46 a.m. EST. The Moon will be in Gemini, with the Sun in Sagittarius. There will be a lunar eclipse but only those who live in Alaska, Hawaii, Australia or east Asia will see the entire event. Those living in the western USA and Canada will see about half of it and those who life in the eastern parts of the USA and Canada will miss out on the event since the Moon will set before the eclipse occurs.
Although this can be a highly creative time for those who feel the energies of the Full Moon in Gemini, it can also bring about a great deal of untruths being told. These energies can also cause one to talk incessantly. This can be a good thing if there’s some things you’ve been wanting to get off your chest and just haven’t done so yet.
Thoughts may turn to more youthful times and a restlessness may cause you to want to make some changes or take a trip to refresh yourself. Be careful of spreading yourself too thin though.
Even if you can’t see the lunar eclipse, you can use its energies for dispelling negative emotions and /or creating movement where there has been stagnation. With the Sun in Sagittarius, whose ruler is Jupiter, the energies are ripe for moving obstacles out of ones way and expanding positive energies in areas where success is sought.
Your thoughts may turn now toward religion, philosophy, law or other areas related to higher education. You may find your mind moving quickly from thought to thought and find an inability to concentrate or meditate.
You may find yourself with some prophetic insights and observe karma unfolding for groups of people.
Be sure to take a breath before you speak during this transit because the tendency will be to just say what is on your mind without considering the effect it has on others.
These are some very interesting vibrational times we are living in right now. Take time to be aware of them and use them for your own good and that of others. Until next time…
