Astrological Musings & More

As I sit here today and write this, an asteroid is making its approach and will pass very close to the Earth.  If you don’t have friends, like I do, who keep you apprised of events in the sky that you might miss, then you may not be aware of this event.

The asteroid, 2005YU55, is about 1300 feet wide and, although it is in a regular orbit that takes it close to Earth, Venus and Mars on a regular basis, this is the closest this asteroid has come to Earth in 200 years.

At approximately 6:28 p.m. EST today, this asteroid will streak eastward across the sky and across several constellations – Aquila to Pegasus – in about 10 hours.  Although not visible to the naked eye, if you have at least a 6” telescope, you can see it pass within 201,700 miles of the Earth.  That’s about 85% the distance of the Earth to the Moon.

Scientists say it will have no gravitational effect on anything on Earth.  Call me a skeptic, but something passing that close to the Earth and no effect?  We’ll see.

After this one passes, there’s nothing passing close until October 26, 2028 at 1:30 p.m. EDT.  That’s when an asteroid called 1997XF11 will pass within 30,000 miles of Earth.  This asteroid is 1 mile wide and some scientists aren’t all that convinced that it won’t hit us.  We’ll definitely have to keep an eye on this one!

And then there’s Apophis, discovered in December 2004.  It’s 885 ft. across – that’s about 2 ½ football fields.  Scientist are waiting for the first fly-by of this asteroid in late 2012 and early 2013 so that they can readjust calculations to see if there’s a chance it will hit Earth in 2029.  It will come close in 2029, about 37,000 to 38,000 miles and be effected by Earth’s gravity enough to alter its orbit.  Because of the possibility of the alteration of its orbit, Russian scientists are predicting it could impact that Earth on April 13, 2036.  That’s a Friday the 13th, by the way!

We’ve heard about large impacts on the Earth, but have never experienced them in our lifetimes.  For me, it makes me realize there is so much more to life than just what I see in my limited vision on a daily basis.  It also brings the lesson of humility for there truly are “more things in heaven and earth” than we can even imagine which we have no control over.  Yep, truly humbling.

On Thursday, November 10th, there will be a Full Moon occurring at 3:16 p.m. EST.  The Moon will be in Taurus while the Sun is in Scorpio.

When the Moon is in Taurus, people truly do become more “bull-headed”.  They can seem pretty stubborn and unchanging, but it’s only because they feel the need to be cautious right now.

The Moon is exalted in the Venus-ruled sign of Taurus and the energies here are ones of conservation, whether of resources or physical energies.  The instinct to use common sense will be strong now.

When you combine this Moon with a Scorpio Sun, it does tend to tone down the energetic nature of Scorpio.  However, given the opportunity, it does add creativity and imagination to the conservative energies of Taurus.  Both are fixed signs, so there will be a predominance of determination and persistence for those who find they could use these traits right now in their lives.

All in all, a very interesting Full Moon!

Mars, ruler of Aries and co-ruler of Scorpio, will make its transition into Virgo on Thursday, November 10th at 11:15 p.m. EST.

The energy and enthusiasm of Mars is dulled somewhat by the earth energies of Virgo.  This is, however, an excellent placement for acquiring knowledge and putting it into practical use.  Virgo is an energy of research and dealing with detail.  If you’ve been needing to do either, the energies are now arriving that can help you.

The downside to this combination is that it can tend to make one over-critical of others thus causing the desire to interfere with the course of other people’s lives more than is good for them or you.

Although you may find yourself physically active now, you may also find yourself avoiding strenuous physical activity unless there is a practical reason for it.

Overall, an excellent placement for dealing with details and having the desire to take action.

Once again the Sun transits and this time it brings us to Sagittarius.  On Tuesday, November 22nd, at 11:08 a.m. EST, the Sun says goodbye to Scorpio as it continues its journey.

This is a time of adaptability and of high aspirations.  Under the influence of Jupiter, Sagittarius’ ruling planet, we are encouraged to stretch out beyond the limitations we have placed on ourselves to new vistas and adventures.

This is a time of optimism and of being jovial.  Finding the good in even the worst of situations and smiling with gratitude because you have found it.

Oh, like all the other signs, Sagittarius has its less positive qualities like irresponsibility, tactlessness, arrogance and being dogmatic, but, hey, no one’s perfect!  These are some of the lessons we have come here to work on and we’ve brought the tools to do it with us!  So, remember to grant yourself freedom and give yourself room to grow and expand your life.  Aim high and reach for the stars!

To all of you born under this sign…..

Most of us look forward to some aspect, if not all of the celebration of Thanksgiving.  When it arrives this year on November 24th, it’s bringing a guest with it…Mercury, which is in Sagittarius, will go retrograde at 2:21 a.m. EST that day!

You may find yourself feeling a little mentally unstable right now in the sense that your mind seems to be whirling.  Concentration seems to be almost impossible because you can’t seem to get passed the external distractions that are constantly interrupting your thoughts.

This is not a good time for trying to make major decisions.  You can find help by seeking out people who are Earth signs.  They can offer some stability to your thought processes right now.  (If you are an Earth sign, you will probably feel little, if any, effect from this unless you have Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius in your natal chart.)

Be aware that anytime Mercury is retrograde there is karma afoot that has to do with relationships because of Mercury’s rulership over communication.  Your reactions/responses to people, at this time, may be caused by the similarity in vibration from them to people from your past – whether this lifetime or another.  The lesson is to be in the present moment and leave the past behind.

So remind yourself Mercury is retrograde on this day of family and friends gathering, smile, hug one and all, and live for this wonderful moment of thanksgiving!

Okay, I believe my work here is done for this issue!  May you find joy and gratitude in abundance as you walk your path!

Blessed Be
