Astrological Musings & More

Who would have thought when I started sending emails to friends to give them a head’s up about Mercury going retrograde that it would end up first as an email newsletter and now a web site newsletter?  I certainly didn’t!

For the last four years, many of you have heard a great deal about my findings and feelings concerning astrology.  When I was thinking about what to write this time, I picked up an old hardback book a friend gave me years ago entitled Astrological Key Words by Manly P. Hall.  The copyright date inside reads “1931”. It’s an invaluable book with lots of interesting information.  This time, however, my attention was drawn to the very beginning – “What Great Men Have Said of Astrology”.

Through the many ages of astrology just as many men and women have voiced their opinions of the validity, or lack thereof, of astrology.  For this issue of “Musings” I would like to share some of those quotes, starting with those I found in Astrological Key Words:

Josephus, the learned historian of the Jews, declared that astrology was practiced during the first ages of the world and that the holy Patriarchs themselves were masters of its mysteries.

Guido Bonatus, a famous Italian astrologer, declared that Jesus Christ was not only sympathetic with astrology but was well acquainted with its principles as was revealed by His words.

Cicero stated that the Babylonians perfected themselves in astrology by observing the nativities of all children for a period of 47,000 years!

The great astronomer Kepler wrote that an aspect is an angle formed at the earth of the beams of two planets or stars at a certain proportionate distance, one from the other, and has great power to stir up influence.

But, as I said, there have been many others to speak about astrology:

“We are born at a given moment, in a given place and, like vintage years of wine, we have the qualities of the year and of the season of which we are born. Astrology does not lay claim to anything more.” Carl Gustav Jung

“A physician without a knowledge of Astrology has no right to call himself a physician” Hippocrates

I don’t believe in astrology; I’m a Sagittarius and we’re skeptical.  Arthur C. Clarke

All anyone can see in a birthchart are tendencies that will become facts if he does not do something to alter them.  Isabel Hickey

“Astrology is one of the earliest attempts made by man to find the order hidden behind or within the confusing and apparent chaos that exists in the world.”  Karen Hamaker-Zondag

“The signs of the zodiac are karmic patterns; the planets are the looms, the will is the weaver.” Author Unknown

And on that note, let’s take a look at what’s happening for the next two weeks!

We begin with a Full Moon occurring in the sign of Aries on Tuesday, October 11th at 10:06 p.m. EDT.

The combination of the Sun in Libra and the Moon in Aries brings an excellent blending of reason and perception.  There is good mental ability now and the will power is fairly strong.  This will tend to cause the need for activity.  It does, however, tend to make one’s personality (your rising sign/ ascendant – the mask you wear to the outside world) active while causing the individuality (your Sun sign – who you are inside) quiet.  This is also an excellent time for those who love to participate in sports or are active in other ways.

On Thursday, October 13th, Mercury moves into Scorpio at 6:52 a.m. EDT.

The energies of this placement can make the mind shrewd, sharp, and powerful while also bestowing remarkably clear foresight and vision.

Ever look into the eyes of someone born in the sign of Scorpio?  The energy coming from their eyes makes you feel like they’re looking into the very depths of your soul!  This is the type of energy being presented by Mercury in Scorpio.

Those who find themselves affected by it may find themselves ruthless in their remarks and highly critical right now.

On the positive side, with this piercing ability of the mind, it’s an excellent time for investigating the mysteries of the Universe or human life.  It may even peak an interest in the occult and mystical side of life.

On Friday, October 21st, rising after midnight the Orionids meteor shower begin.  You’ll find them located in the south-eastern sky before dawn between the constellations of Orion and Gemini.  Although a rather large waning crescent Moon will obstruct the view, you should be able to see about 15 meteors per hours in the wee hours before dawn on the 22nd.  Enjoy!!!

Oh!  I did mention those born in the sign of Scorpio earlier, didn’t I?  Well, the Sun will be entering that sign on Sunday, October 23rd at 2:30 p.m. EDT.

Most astrologers still recognize that Pluto is the ruling planet of Scorpio, although many will give co-rulership to Mars.  Either way, there is truly an intensity to all that involves this sign.  It is a water sign though and that means a highly emotional nature.  This also bestows a very imaginative nature and a psychic one as well.

There is a natural regenerative nature, whether you’re talking about health or any other area of a Scorpio’s life.  There is also a natural revengeful nature that should be guarded against as it will affect the health and other areas of one’s life.

They can be secretive, suspicious, stubborn and jealous, but they can also be persistent and determined.  They can achieve anything they set out to do.  There’s a great deal of healing power (that regeneration thing) that can be used to help others as well as themselves.

They find themselves fascinated by all of life and death as well as all forms of religion.

For those of us not born Scorpios, this is an excellent time for regeneration of any type in our lives as well as the exploration of all the mysteries life, death and the realms of the spirit have to offer.

To all my Scorpio friends –

Well, we’ve come to the end of another issue.  May the coming days and weeks be filled with wonder and mystery for you and may the stars light your path!

Love and Blessed Be
