The Autumn Equinox occurred at 5:05 a.m. EDT this morning, bringing with it, not only Fall and the sign of Libra, but a time of balance. This is the time when day and night are equal again, just as they are at the Vernal Equinox in the Spring. The question is, what should that mean for all of us? Oh, there’s the “usual” answers – putting away Summer clothes for Fall and Winter ones; taking down screens and putting on storm windows; cleaning furnaces so they can be turned on eventually…but what about us? What is it that we are being offered the opportunity to do now?
One answer might be “find balance” in our day to day lives and in ourselves. But what does that mean? That’s a very individualistic answer, but for most of us, I would say it’s a time to take a look at the life you’ve been living and ask yourself if it’s all you want it to be. Have you allowed yourself to become one of the many who live each day like a hamster on a hamster wheel? You know…get up, go to work, come home, eat, go to bed, repeat, repeat, repeat…ad nauseum. Have you given up on the dreams you had in your youth? Is there no time for the things you enjoy doing? In other words, has your life become one without balance?
On the spiritual path I walk, we have seven tenets and one of those tenets is a “Balanced Life”. Briefly, it states that the aim is to help people find a harmonious existence by knowing themselves and the Universe as well as the balance between the forces of Nature and Man. It also states that this balanced condition allows us to stretch out and view life from all angles without distortion.
I will grant you that this can be a true “balancing” act, but we owe it to ourselves and others to achieve that harmony in our lives. To be able to find joy in each day and in every action is truly a gift and one that we can give to ourselves. We should strive to remove our self-imposed limitations so that not only can we do what we need to do but what we enjoy doing. Now that’s living!!!
I leave you with this wonderful quote from an Autumn Equinox ritual:
“Now is the time of balance, when day and night face each other as equals. Yet, at this season, the night is waxing and the day is waning; for nothing ever remains without change, in the tides of Earth and Sky. Know and remember, that whatsoever rises must also set, and whatsoever sets must also rise.”
With the Sun and the Moon both in Libra now (and the Equinox having just occurred), it’s obvious that the energies are leading us to direct our attention to balance.
Libra is the natural ruler of the 7th house – the house of partnership. These can be of any type: intimate, business, familial, friendship, etc. Venus is the ruling planet and Venus seeks beauty, love, and harmony. The natural vibration here is a friendly one that is tolerant.
All these wonderful energies are a great assistance in the Libra keynote “I balance”. For not only is this a time of balance in Nature – day/night, Summer/Winter, but also me/you. If you are one who gives and gives to all those around you, but saves nothing or little for yourself, these energies are reminding you that balance requires an equal amount of time and attention for yourself.
If your life has become chaotic or just not the way you would like it to be, this New Moon is the perfect time to begin to bring things into balance for yourself. What better time to seek out change than when the energies are assisting you to find balance for yourself!?
On Sunday, October 9th, Venus moves into Scorpio at 1:50 a.m. EDT. Here the feelings of love, represented by Venus, are intensified by the sign Scorpio. The energies have a magnetic quality to them. The drawback is that, those affected by them, may find themselves also highly willful when their affections aren’t returned in a satisfactory manner. After all, Scorpio is intense.
There will also be a tendency to be direct and determined. All in all, there’s nothing wrong with this. However, there may be some people who are frightened by how straightforward the effects of Scorpio can be.
Used in a positive manner, this can be a really passionate force to move a person forward in whatever area they desire. Jealousy and possessiveness need to be guarded against though.
A very colorful, intense time filled with a myriad of possibilities!!!
Well, I did say the skies were quiet this time. Just a reminder that we still have Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune retrograde for the rest of this month. We still have many things to learn as individuals and as the people of Planet Earth.
Until we meet again, may the energy of the planets go with you!
