Ah, here we are again! I hope you’re enjoying the Summer and all the beauties of Nature that go with it!
In the last issue, I mentioned how knowing your Sun, Moon and Ascendant (Rising) sign would tell you a great deal about yourself but there were other placements in your chart that could reveal even more. One of these placements is the Part of Fortune.
The Part of Fortune is one of 32 Parts in the Arabian system of astrology. These different Parts can tell you anything from how you might experience love, divorce, bankruptcy to fortune, just to name a few. You find a particular Arabian Part by taking the sign and degree of ones Ascendant at birth, adding the sign and degree of a specific planet and then subtracting the sign and degree of another specific planet.
In the case of the Part of Fortune, the calculation to find this point in your natal chart is done using those three earlier mentioned signs – Sun, Moon and Ascendant. You take the sign and degree of your Ascendant and add the sign and degree of your natal Moon. From this amount you subtract the sign and degree of your natal Sun. The end result is a point in your chart that will reveal what brings you joy, where your success lies, or, in other words, your “pot of gold” at the end of your own personal rainbow.
But why use these three specific parts of the chart to reach this point? And why, when the calculation is done, is the point equidistant from each of the three? Hmmm….
The answer is actually fairly simple. Let’s take it one step at a time, beginning with your Sun sign. For each of us, our Sun sign offers the opportunity to learn who we are and what we stand for. Like the Sun itself, our Sun sign offers the opportunity to radiant the brightness, the goodness of all that we are. If we face our goodness and energize our lives with it, all doubt will disappear. This is not about what others think of us, but what we think and believe about ourselves and our Sun signs offer us the opportunity for growth through belief in all the goodness that lies within us.
Okay, that makes sense. What about the your Moon sign? The Moon is about our emotional nature and how we respond to outside stimulus in our lives. If we look to the sign the Moon was in at the time of our birth we gain great insight into how we naturally react to life. This, however, may have been changed through upbringing and/or life experience. So we must go back and view the emotional qualities we were born with and those which we may emotionally experience, but not express outwardly, when faced with life situations. The goal is to achieve emotional harmony. This is difficult for many because of the programmed emotional responses we have all learned over the course of our lives. The opportunity offered to us, through our Moon sign, is to respond to life rather than to react to it.
That too seems very plausible. So what does the Ascendant have to do with all this? The Ascendant is our personality. The outward expression of who we are. For some, this can mean that what they express outwardly is far different from what they think and feel internally. Our personality is often developed by what we are taught is acceptable behavior rather than the expression of our own personal truth. Psychologically, you could view this as our ego. The façade we project to the outside world to keep us safe and, often, accepted amongst those we work and live. By living in this manner, we have taken power away from the real us – the Sun sign we were born under. So here we are given the opportunity to find a balance between who we are inside and how we express ourselves to the outside world.
An even better opportunity is brought to us, when we “do the math” and find our Part of Fortune and place it in our charts. This is the place of real harmony and the expression of this harmony brings abundance, success, and joy, with ease, for the individual. No, it won’t happen as if by magick, but what it will do is point the way to where the most joy and accomplishments can be reached in your life, with a little effort on your part.
We are in a time of great change. Many find themselves dissatisfied with their lives and are looking for change. A tool to finding this change could very well be the Part of Fortune. After all, finding a way to reach harmony, joy and success in ones life could be quite an adventure. Are you looking for the journey of a lifetime? Maybe you’ve just found what you’ve been looking for…the Part of Fortune!
Next time, asteroids.
In the meantime, we have the first of two New Moons in July occurring on Friday, July 1st at 4:54 a.m. EDT. This one will be in Cancer with the Sun in Cancer as well. The Moon’s home sign is Cancer and both are related to the emotional nature of us humans. Even though this is a New Moon, emotions – yours and/or others – may be a little intense or uncontrollable. This may be that time you’ve been waiting for to clear away long-standing emotional debris to make room for new, more positive emotional experiences.
I have often talked about New Moons being good times for new beginnings. To me, with both the Moon and Sun in Cancer, this is an excellent time to get things “flowing”. After all, Cancer is a water sign (which also makes it very fruitful) and it is a cardinal sign, which means it’s good for starting things. What more could you ask for energy-wise? So if you’ve been feeling stagnant or there are areas of your life that seem stagnant, this is a perfect time to unstop the dam and get things flowing in the direction that leads to prosperity, abundance and success!
Then on Saturday, July 2nd at 1:38 a.m. EDT, our dear friend Mercury, planet of communication and more, will move into Leo.
With Mercury ruling the head and Leo ruling the heart, this is an unbeatable combination! This unbeatable combination produces energies that, when tapped into, can create leadership qualities combined with charisma and executive ability.
Not looking for a leadership position? Don’t see yourself as an executive? Well, you can always use the energies of this combination to take charge of your life in ways you never believed possible. This is the sign that brings planning and purpose – a formidable combination for creating a positive, prosperous life! It’s also the energies that produce mental self-confidence which produces positive results for tackling and solving problems. How cool is that?
These energies are really valuable and all you have to do is find what needs doing, focus on it and open yourself to the infinite possibilities available through the combination of head and heart!
Do you have a Cancer influence in your chart? Then you may find yourself wanting to openly express love, in many forms, to the world and those close to you. After all, Cancer is sentimental and cares a great deal about friends and family.
This expression of love can also extend to your home, which is a favorite place of those with Cancer influence, and you may find yourself decorating for the 4th or a gathering of those friends and family that you hold dear.
No matter how your emotion is expressed, it is just important that you do express it now. Keeping silent is no longer an option. The time has come to tell the world and those in it how you feel.
Speaking of the 4th of July, although it very much represents and marks the founding and independence of this country, I believe each of us needs to mark this holiday for our own personal independence. Freedom is a choice, a very personal one and there are some of us who imprison ourselves with worn-out restrictions and habits from the past. As children, we waited to be adults so we can make our own rules and our own decisions and yet many of us still remain bound by rules and decisions made for us decades ago.
Even in a relationship, we have the right to be who we truly are, so, on this 4th of July, declare your independence. Leave the past in the past and march to the beat of your own drummer!
At 8:38 p.m. EDT, on Saturday, July 9th, Uranus, planet of the freedom urge, goes retrograde in Aries, sign of Spring and new growth.
This combination bring the energies of courage, daring, resourcefulness and initiative. It is the energy of the trail-blazer and the pioneer who forges new roads where no one has gone before. Here freedom is of paramount importance.
And now it’s gone retrograde. So what does that mean for us? We know that retrogrades bring karma, but most often they bring lessons and the opportunity to learn and grow. Uranus in Aries retrograde will be a time when each of us may experience the importance of our own individuality, uniqueness and independence. (And how interesting that it’s beginning so close to Independence Day.) It brings the need for spontaneity as a tool to break through the barriers of “traditions” we have held too long within ourselves that have kept us bound. It is time to walk where there are no other footsteps in front of you and form new mental beginnings in everything that you do. Intense, but rewarding!
